Welcome to the UNOFFICIAL Sea Stars Game Forum! Please note that I am a player of the game. I do not belong to the Hotheads staff that created Sea Stars. I am just somebody who wishes to communicate with other users about the game. I have been playing the game for about three months now; and have seen comments made by other players on the AppStore and on the PlayStore sites, as well as on some other places on the World Wide Web. I have both wanted to respond to some of the commenters and to ask my own questions of other players; and have decided to create this space to provide that opportunity for myself and others. Please watch for improvements in the forum as I learn more about how to run and maintain a forum! The general purpose of this forum is for players like myself to share and exchange information about gameplay, pets, or anything else related to the game. Posts that are not related to the Sea Stars Game will probably be deleted.

My thought of the day concerning Sea Stars concerns accumulation of sand dollars. At first, I wanted to save up stars for something big. This plan was cut short one time when I was playing and had the whopping sum of 17 sand dollars to my name! At the end of a round, I accidentally touched the life-preserver; and the round continued and re-ended before I had the chance to understand what had gone on. (What had gone on is that Sea Stars does not confirm the purchase of the life-preserver -- so I lost the 15 sand dollars for good.) After this I did not let any more sand dollars accumulate, but purchased a pet-box with every ten sand dollars that I could get. This resulted in such interesting finds as:
Alex the Turtle -- a handy pet that never leaves the swimmer's side and eats every sea-urchin on its path! Kayla the Unicorn -- I don't know what a unicorn is doing in the ocean... but Kayla is cool because she stays behind the swimmer and collects clamshells. Her downside is that, as soon as she had collected a clamshell, she disappears for about half a minute. This means that she misses some clamshells. (Hotheads replied to my query in this regard by saying that different pets do their jobs to varying degrees.) Matteo and Butterbean the Hippos -- who eat rocket crabs. I find these two particularly useless during rocket-crab attacks because the crabs often come several at a time; whereas Matteo and Butterbean both eat one single rocket crab and disappear for a while. I have not yet been able to determine whether one of the two is better than the other at catching rocket crabs. Sagan the Devil Fish -- a particularly ugly pet that melts ice cubes. Like Alex the Turtle, Sagan does not leave your side. The ugliness of this particular pet, as well as the relative ease of avoiding floating ice cubes/glaciers, make me avoid using this pet. Baby Blue -- Baby Blue looks like a tiny version of Storval. His job is to attract Storval. If you have BB along, Storval will be behind every Sea Star.
All the rest of the pets I got ended up being ones that help you to collect missed coins. I have SEVENTEEN pets that collect missed coins. Because of this, and since MOST of the pets only help you to collect missed coins, I decided that the endeavo(u)r of collecting pets was not best serving my needs. What I really want are the super Swimstars: Cthathy-Loo, Polar Bear and Alligator. So: what I actually need are lots of sand dollars, as well as a way of preventing such errors as happened to me with the life-preserver. Since I am completely broke at this time, the only way I can earn sand dollars is by playing the game, and it comes down to the following equations: Sand dollars are earned by completing missions. Some missions are hard, some are easy. Missions give you one, two or three stars. Each Sand dollar is worth between three and thirteen stars. (That is, you could end up with three super-easy missions in a level where a sand dollar is worth three stars -- thus earning a sand dollar after one or two rounds; or you could end up with a level where a sand dollar is worth thirteen stars -- with six or seven or eight very difficult missinos -- and get stuck playing tens of rounds before seeing one additional sand dollar.)
SO: I set about a mission of discovering the pattern according to which I could earn sand dollars most easily.
My findings: It costs between 5000 and 15000 points to skip a mission. (A mission worth one star costs 5000 points; a mission worth two stars costs 10,000 points; a mission worth three stars costs 15000 points.) That is: each star that helps you to go up a level can be earned in one of two ways: EITHER: you complete the mission; OR: you buy out the mission at the price of 5000 coins per star.
The levels cycle in groups of fifteen: First four levels cost three stars or 15000 points each. Next three levels cost five stars or 25000 points each. Next three levels cost seven stars or 35000 points each. Next three levels cost nine stars or 45000 points each. Next ONE level costs eleven stars or 55000 points. Next two levels cost thirteen stars or 65000 points each. For a total of fifteen levels costing a total of 560000 points (560 thousand points). On average, one sand dollar costs 37333 points.
Therefore, to earn 400 sand dollars, I need 37333x400 points -- that is, about 15000000 (FIFTEEN MILLION) points. (Does anyone care to provide an explanation using modular arithmetic?)
So far so good. Earning fifteen million points would take half a lifetime. I might as well find a job and earn enough real dollars to buy myself a few thousand sand dollars!
So the trick is ... oh dear ... it seems like I have too much time on my hands -- but actually, occupying myself with this game is my way of avoiding the mountain of tasks that I have set up for myself in real life... OK, so the trick is to earn the missions as painlessly as possible. I will make a separate post with a breakdown of each mission.
PS if anyone is reading this, I would really appreciate some help in creating new topics on this forum. It has been a while since I have belonged to any fora (forums); and I do not know how to do this. My next post will still be under the welcome topic -- but actually, each of this posts needs it own category.

Sea Stars Pets:
I do not care to list all of the pets here. I am only going to write the following:
Sea Stars has a total of 56 pets.
These are divided into two groups: About 34 pets "help to collect missed coins" The remaining 22 have special functions. Of these I know the following:
I will add to this post as I get to know more pets.
In the game, regular pets appear in a blue frame; special ones appear in a golden frame.
So far, I feel somewhat annoyed by the fact that you have absolutely no clue as to what kind of pet you are buying before you buy it. I think it would be smarter of Hotheads, as they do, to have several pets with the same outline -- only one of which has special qualities; and to let people choose pets by outline. That way, the chance of getting a special pet can be known in advance. That is, in the current format, a very, very, very unlucky player might purchase 34 pets before hitting on a 35th pet with special qualities. (The probability of that happening is very near zero, namely 22^22/56!/34!, meaning, 22x22....x22 (22 times in all) divided by (56 factorial over 34 factorial), or about three in twenty million (0,000000141774)) -- but... why risk this? It would be much less frustrating if, say, there were three diffierent colo(u)red baby whales, two of which just collect coins; but one of which invites Storval... then I would know for certain that by purchasing all three whales (choosing by the pets' silhouette which one to purchase), you end up with exactly one that has special qualities. But I guess it is too late to change anything about this.

The game has several items you can buy with coins that you earn by playing the game, that can help maximize the number of coins that you earn in each round. These can be found under "store>Items" and include: "Shell Prize Coin Multiplier Upgrade" "Shell Prize Coin Upgrade" "Shell Prize Speed Blast Upgrade" "Shell Prize Jelly Shield Upgrade" "Shell Prize Invincibility Upgrade" Additional help to earn coins are the coin vortices, which can be found in "Store>Buddies". These make the swim buddies suction coins to your swimstar whenever you are riding them. If you earn lots and lots of coins, you can purchase Niji the Narwahl -- Niji suctions coins all around himself.
